Cambodia Gambling Dens
There is an interesting history to the Cambodia gambling dens that lie just across the border from nearby Thailand, where gambling hall wagering is not legal. Eight gambling dens are based in a relatively small space in the city of Poipet in Cambodia. This band of Cambodia casinos is in an excellent location, a 3 to 4 hour trip from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 biggest gambling centers in Asia. Cambodia gambling dens do a huge business with Thai laborers and visitors from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a couple of Westerners. The phenomenal income accrued from the casinos ranges from $7.5 million to more than 12.5 million, and there are a number of limitations constraints for casino ownership. Ownership is presumed to be mainly Thai; although, investment sources are cryptic. The borders are formally open from 0900 to 1700, and even though visas are apparently required to pass, there are ways around this, as is true of many borders.
The first Cambodia gambling dens opened in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were forced to close in the late nineties, leaving just one casino in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, an anchored barge casino, contains one hundred and fifty one armed bandits and sixty gaming tables. The Naga gambling den never closes with forty two tables of mini-punto banco, 4 tables of blackjack, ten of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and a single table each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The initial gambling den in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in the late nineties and the Golden Crown quickly followed. There are one hundred and fifty slot machine games and five table games at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four slots and 68 tables at the Holiday Palace. The latest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort features 300 slot machines and 70 gaming tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 slots and 96 gaming tables, including 87 baccarat banque (the most popular game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. In addition, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 slots and 66 of the common tables, as well as 1 table of Casino Stud Poker. An additional of the eight casinos in Poipet, also a part of a hotel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six slot machine games and 97 casino games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in an international resort and hotel building that highlights many comforts in addition to the gambling hall, which offers 10,000 square feet of 130 one armed bandits and eighty eight table games.
