Cambodia Casinos

There is a fascinating story to the Cambodia gambling dens that sit just over the border from nearby Thailand, in which casino gaming is illegal. Eight casinos are situated in a generally small area in the city of Poipet in Cambodia. This conclave of Cambodia gambling halls is in an excellent spot, a three to four hour travel from Bangkok and Macao, the two largest wagering locations in Asia. Cambodia casinos do a thriving business with Thai workers and guests from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a few Westerners. The amazing income acquired from the gambling halls ranges from seven and a half million dollars to more than 12.5 million dollars, and there are a few restrictions requirements for gambling hall ownership. Ownership is presumed to be mainly Thai; however, financial sources are ambiguous. The borders are officially open from 0900 to 17:00, and even though visas are allegedly needed to pass, there are means around this, as is real of many border crossings.

The first Cambodia casinos premiered in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were required to close in the late nineties, leaving only one gambling hall in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a docked barge casino, contains 150 slots and 60 gaming tables. The Naga gambling den is open 24 hours with forty two tables of mini-punto banco, 4 tables of chemin de fer, 10 of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and a single table each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The first gambling den in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in the late nineties and the Golden Crown quickly opened. A total of 150 one armed bandits and five table games at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four one armed bandits and 68 gaming tables at the Holiday Palace. The newest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort highlights three hundred slot machines and 70 tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 slot machines and ninety six gaming tables, including eighty seven punto banco (the most popular game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. In addition, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 slots and sixty six of the familiar tables, as well as 1 table of Casino Stud Poker. One more of the 8 gambling dens in Poipet, again in a motel, is the Princess Casino with 166 slots and 97 casino games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of an international resort and hotel building that features a number of amenities in addition to the gambling hall, which has ten thousand square feet of 130 slot machine games and eighty eight tables.
